Maybe you heard about it in a PFLAG meeting, read it in an email from Basic Rights Oregon, or saw it in a social media post from the ACLU of Oregon, but what exactly is the Equal Rights for All ballot measure?
A ballot measure is an issue or question that voters can support or oppose on their ballot.
The Equal Rights for All ballot measure would give Oregonians the opportunity to secure our right to same-sex marriage, transgender health care, abortion, contraception, and IVF through a vote on the November 2026 ballot.
How? If the ballot measure passes, the Oregon Constitution will be amended to affirm these rights. This change would make it more difficult for these rights to be taken away through executive orders and other legislative means.
It’s a heartening opportunity, but the measure won’t be on the November 2026 ballot unless the Equal Rights for All campaign can gather 250,000 signatures.
This is a call to action. If you believe that Oregonians should have the ability to make their own, private healthcare decisions and marry the people they love, this is how you help make that happen:
1. Go to https://www.equalrightsoregon.com/get-involved
2. Add your signature! Print the form, sign it, and return in the mail.
3. Volunteer to gather signatures for the campaign. Virtual training provided.
“Each of us—regardless of how we identify or who we love—should be able to live, work, and make deeply personal decisions about our lives with dignity, respect, and equal rights and freedoms,” states the Equal Rights for All campaign. “We can’t control what extremist politicians do elsewhere in the country, but Oregonians can come together to protect these rights in our state for generations to come.”
