PFLAG Portland Welcomes New Board Members

You’ve heard them speak in virtual meetings and seen them at our in-person support circles. Please help us welcome our newest board members: Brandy, Sean, and Tabitha. All three are reminders that not all heroes wear capes, but they sure look good in a PFLAG Loves Me sticker.

Brandy Turnbull (she/her) | Treasurer

Brandy is stepping into the role of Treasurer for PFLAG Portland.  Brandy brings more than 20 years of experience in empowering mission-driven organizations through finance.  Through her own experiences as a queer person and someone who is raising a queer child, she has seen firsthand the need for greater understanding and empathy.  Her hope is that by serving PFLAG, she can help create the social change needed for the queer community and its allies.

Sean Barnett (he/him) | At Large

I’m a therapist in private practice after many years spent working in inpatient psychiatry, community mental health, and two years as a Peace Corps volunteer teaching English in Cameroon. After my daughter came out as transgender in 2020, I’d watched with increasing anxiety as anti-trans laws were introduced and often passed in states across the country. The 2024 election results were a wake-up call that even in Oregon, the safety of the LGBTQ+ community isn’t guaranteed, and I knew I needed to connect with other people sharing these fears and find a way to engage in meaningful action. I started attending PFLAG meetings in January, and it’s been exactly what I was looking for. I’m deeply honored to be able to contribute my time and energy to this amazing organization!

Tabitha Staley (she/her) | At Large

Tabitha came out as a trans woman a year into the Covid lockdowns. After transitioning for a few years, she felt a calling to try to give back to the community and help others in any way she could. One of the first volunteer organizations Tabitha found was PFLAG Portland, and it became an immediate home for her. She joined the board in 2025 and is excited to continue her efforts. Her primary goal in the organization is to offer her perspective as a trans woman to other members who are looking for help in becoming better allies and understanding their LGBTQ+ friends and loved ones.
