Sleep in Trans Youth (SITY) study, research study opportunity

Run by a trans PhD student at Oregon State University, this study examines the sleep health of trans and gender diverse (TGD) youth initiating gender-affirming (GA) hormones. TGD individuals are at an elevated risk for poor sleep, which can impact overall health and wellbeing. The goal of SITY is to characterize the impact of starting GA hormone therapy on sleep health so that these findings can contribute to interventions and strategies that support TGD people. TGD individuals between ages of 14-25 who plan to start hormone therapy within the next 6 months are eligible to participate. Find more information at https://www.shaidlab.com/sity

Crossing Boundaries: Portraits of a Transgender West, exhibit

Curated in collaboration with historian Peter Boag, the Washington State Historical Society’s original exhibition Crossing Boundaries shares seldom-spotlighted historical narratives of transgender people in the West.

Spanning from 1860 to 1940, the exhibition highlights the lives of specific individuals who did not conform to gender norms, connecting those histories to contemporary aspects of today’s LGBTQ+ community. Among those featured are Harry Allen, a heartbreaker who was wanted by the police; Dr. Alan Hart, a medical doctor and Northwest novelist; and the mysterious Mrs. Nash, a laundress to the famed Seventh Cavalry (and an officer’s wife).
