About PFLAG

A family of chapters across America

PFLAG is people, LGBTQ and straight, parents, friends, and allies, working together to make a better future for LGBT youth and adults.

Through peer-to-peer support, educating people on the issues, and advocating for inclusive policies and laws, we keep Portland's LGBTQ folks, families, and friends strong.

PFLAG is a national non-profit organization with over 200,000 members and supporters and nearly 400 volunteer-run chapters in the United States. PFLAG started out over 40 years ago as a support organization for the families and friends of LGBTQ persons. Now we’re one of the largest grassroots LGBTQ-friendly organizations in the country, a safe welcoming space where LGBTQ and straight can come together to make a better world for everyone. Learn more on the PFLAG National website.

PFLAG chapters are governed by volunteer leadership elected by their chapter members. The network operates a National office whose primary role is to support the work of PFLAG’s chapter network and to promote PFLAG’s presence in the national arena, including Congress and the Executive Branch, coalitions with organizations who share our goals, and the media.

PFLAG Portland is one of the oldest chapters in the PFLAG network, with a 40 year history of support to the LGBTQ community.
